Patagonia National Park: A Living Example of Rewilding Done Right

Patagonia National Park is one of Chile’s most visionary and successful ecological restoration projects. Once home to one of the country’s largest livestock ranches, this land was reimagined through the efforts of Tompkins Conservation, and later donated to the Chilean state. Today, it stands as a global model for rewilding and large-scale conservation.

The park has been transformed into a thriving sanctuary for iconic Patagonian species, including pumas, guanacos, Andean condors, and the  Huemul deer, Chile’s elusive national symbol. Visitors are invited to explore an expansive mosaic of steppe, wetlands, and lenga forests, with access to well-marked trail networks, state-of-the-art interpretive centers, and ongoing rewilding projects that bring the park’s story to life.
