This will be our exclusive base camp, the perfect launch point for exploring these stunning glacial valleys. Holding the sole commercial concession for the area, Sol de Mayo ensures you won’t encounter other travelers, offering a rare and private immersion into Patagonia’s wild heart.

10-Day Expedition: Into the Heart of the Colonia Valley & Patagonian Ice Fields

7 Days in the Colonia Valley + Access & Travel = 10 Days Total

Explore one of Patagonia’s most remote and spectacular regions—deep inside the Colonia Valley, beneath the shadow of the Northern Ice Fields. This journey combines rugged trekking, glacial exploration, and raw wilderness camping in places few have ever set foot.

Day 1 – Arrival in Puerto Guadal

Meet in Puerto Guadal. Welcome, expedition planning and gear check.


Overnight in a local lodge.

Day 2 – Entering the Colonia Valley

Drive deeper into the valley along remote roads (Approx. 3 hours) until La Rinconada, the road’s end.
From here, begin your trek into the wilderness—hike to Sol de Mayo Ranch, an exclusive base camp nestled at the edge of Laguna San Rafael National Park.

Days 3–9 – The Expedition Begins

Spend the next 6 days exploring on foot and by water through rarely visited terrain. Highlights include:

  • Claro Alto Glacier – A hidden glacier tucked in a secret valley

  • Boat ride on Lake Colonia – Navigate this dramatic, glacier-fed lake

  • Pack raft traverse through icebergs – Paddle among floating ice in complete solitude

  • Colonia Glacier visit – One of the most awe-inspiring glaciers in the Northern Ice Fields

  • Unbelievable campsites – Remote, wild, and under the stars

  • Magical lagoons and alpine valleys – Untouched and otherworldly

This section is fully self-supported, guided, and off-grid—designed for true adventurers.

Day 10 – Return to Civilization

Trek out from base camp and return to Puerto Guadal.
Enjoy a well-earned meal and hot shower. Overnight in town.
