Our Lightest Expedition — A Short but Memorable Ride
This accessible yet immersive horseback journey is perfect for those looking to experience the wild beauty of Patagonia without committing to a full expedition. Starting just outside Puerto Guadal, the route takes you through mountain trails and summer pastures, with sweeping views of General Carrera Lake and the majestic Northern Ice Fields along the way.

Total Distance: Approximately 30 km
What to Expect: Traverse varied terrain including lenga forests, open grasslands, and high mountain paths. Visit local puestos where gauchos live and work, and explore unique fossil deposits, including both mammal and marine fossils. A short trek above the tree line (around 1,200 meters) offers panoramic views and a deeper connection to the landscape. Expect some steep sections, both uphill and downhill, and enjoy delicious meals prepared over the fire. This is a relaxed yet rugged adventure—ideal for first-time riders, solo travelers, or anyone curious to experience Patagonia from the saddle.

Ride to Palo Blanco Camp (Approx. 4 hours)
Begin your adventure on horseback, following scenic mountain trails through lenga forests and open highland pastures.
Trek to Cerro Azul Fossil Site (Approx. 2.5 hours on foot)
In the afternoon, hike to the Cerro Azul fossil beds, where ancient mammal remains rest undisturbed—a window into Patagonia’s prehistoric past.
Overnight at Palo Blanco Camp
Ride to Marine Fossil Site (Approx. 2 hours)
Continue on horseback across expansive highlands, home to an impressive collection of marine fossils embedded in the rocky terrain.
Descent to Centro Errática (Approx. 2.5 hours)
Begin your descent with sweeping views of the valley below, returning to Centro Errática by late afternoon.
